New Arrangements for Covid 19

Covid Security

We have carried out a risk assessment and made some changes to the shop and how we operate.  This is for your and our safety.  We have installed a classy perspex screen by the till area; we have sourced some 80% alcohol hand rub which should be used to sanitise your hands on entry and exit (and not consumed); we will only be allowing 2 people or small family groups in the shop at a time, one in the pre-school area and one in the middle room or the antiquarian section.  Please wear a mask to protect yourself and others. Please do not let small children roam freely around the shop.  Normally I encourage it but in the current situation it is not advisable.  If you are not sure if anyone is in the shop, just pop your head in the door to clarify.  Please form a socially distanced queue outside, it will make us look busy.  There are some narrow areas in the shop, so please be conscious of other customers and endeavour to maintain a 2 metre distance at all time. I will endeavour not to be too bossy!

Pre-arranged Orders

If you know what you want or would like some advice, we would encourage you to contact us in advance either by phone, email or Facebook messenger.  You can simply call and collect (or I can post it out). It's like click and collect but you get to talk to a real person!

Social Distancing

The shop is small and social distancing will not be easy.  We will be allowing 2 people or small family groups in the shop at any one time.  One person in the picture book/pre-school area and one in the young readers area in the middle room.  Please maintain a 2m distance wherever possible. Please queue outside whilst you are waiting,  I have ordered good weather (or bring a brolly). Please limit your browsing time in consideration of others.

Wearing Face Coverings

Wearing a mask is mandatory.  We will not be wearing them as a general rule as we will be behind a perspex screen.  We will however have them to hand and if we come round to advise you we will wear one.

Hand Hygeine

We have some 80% alcohol hand rub for staff and customer use.  Staff also have access to hand washing facilities.  Please use this on entry and exit and supervise your child's use.

General Hygeine

We will be maintaining a cleaning regime after the shop closes and during the day where possible.  Please be aware that with the best will in the world we can't eliminate every germ and recommend that you wash you hands with soap and water at the earliest opportunity.
Please keep handling books to a minimum.

Payment Method

We would prefer payment by card.

Please be Nice

These are strange and difficult times.  A bookshop is a safe place, a happy place where we can spend time, chatting with others about books.  It is going to be different in the short term.  Please be aware of other people who may be waiting outside or anxious about coming out shopping.  I'm anxious about how it will work and if I can maintain a safe way of being open on my own.  Kindness, courtesy, patience and tolerance go a long way to making things better.
